Washington Capitals‘ captain Alex Ovechkin is still chasing 700 goals tonight, but he sent former Capital and Vegas Golden Knights’ defenseman Nate Schmidt over the boards into the Knights’ bench towards the end of the opening frame.

After speeding through neutral ice, Ovechkin landed a big hit on Schmidt, which sent him flying over the Vegas bench. Schmidt left for the dressing room.

Schmidt did return for the remainder of the first period. After twenty minutes of play, the Capitals are down 2-0 at T-Mobile Arena.
