The Washington Capitals held morning skate ahead of tonight’s game against the Arizona Coyotes (10:00 P.M. ET on NBC Sports Washington). Here is the latest from Gila River Arena.

Center Evgeny Kuznetsov, who has been day-to-day with an upper-body injury,  was on the ice this morning wearing a normal contact jersey. He did not play the Capitals’ 3-2 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday.

Despite returning, he did not participate in line rushes. Head Coach Todd Reirden did confirm that Kuznetsov will not play tonight and is hoping he can get back in the lineup on Monday when the Capitals visit the Golden Knights in Vegas. Goaltender Braden Holtby will be in net for Washington.

Reirden’s comments following morning skate:

Goaltender Antti Raanta will start for Arizona.

Coyotes’ prospect Barrett Hayton returned to the team’s morning skate after a conditioning stint with the AHL’s Tucson Roadrunners.

He will not be in the lineup, however. The 19-year old suffered a shoulder injury in the World Junior Championship back in January and has been recovering since then.

Captain Oliver Ekman-Larsson will play his 714th game tonight, passing Dale Hawerchuk (713) for the fourth-most games played in franchise history.
