On Friday, Washington Capitals‘ center Nicklas Backstrom and defenseman Radko Gudas participated in a hockey clinic with youth from Dreams For Kids D.C. following today’s optional practice at Medstar Capitals Iceplex. NoVa Caps’ photojournalist Joe Noyes was at the event capturing the action this afternoon. (If you haven’t done so already, please give Joe a follow on Instagram and check out his website here.)
Before the event, participants watched practice. Backstrom and Gudas skated with nearly 100 children with physical and developmental disabilities. This year marked the tenth-consecutive season the Capitals have hosted the skate, interacting with about 1,000 children over the decade.

Dreams For Kids DC, a 501(c)(3) children’s charity, organizes life-changing activities that empower children with physical and developmental disabilities to unite with their peers and realize their full potential. Their clinics pair each child with a volunteer so every child is engaged effectively as they participate in sports, often for the very first time.
