Goaltender Ilya Samsonov will get the net for the first time since before the bye-week when the Washington Capitals visit the Ottawa Senators (7:30 PM ET, NBC Sports Washington) at Canadian Tire Centre on Friday night. “I’d like to see more of what we saw before the break and feel like giving him a few extra days to resettle in after being off the ice for 7 days was the right plan for him to set him up for success,” head coach Todd Reirden told the media.

Ovechkin, who is seven goals away from 700 in his career and has nine goals during a four-game goal-scoring streak entering Friday night, told reporters that “When it is close to 700 goals, of course, you are going to try to finish it up as quick as you can, but yeah, I just don’t try to think about much and try to do my best out there.”

Senators head coach D.J. Smith said that the team has yet to name a starter and will not make any line changes against the Capitals. They have not played since a 5-2 win against the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday.

Guys, keep eyes on Borowiecki and DeMelo as they are pending UFA’s and I hope the Caps scouts are watching them too for the trade deadline. The Caps could use an upgrade in their D core (most of you are aware of this) and these two wouldn’t be too expensive to trade for.
