Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson spoke to NHL Network on Tuesday chatting about captain Alex Ovechkin’s race to pass Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goal record (894).
“I don’t know,” Wilson said. “I’ve never seen a guy more motivated to score goals.” Wilson praised Ovechkin on his motivation, love for scoring goals, and dominance on the ice.
“When he gets one [goal], he wants the second one even more. Once he gets two, he wants the hat trick even more than that.”

Wilson continued, “I think it’s crazy that we’re even talking about this— in this era, in this day in age.”
He said Ovechkin has a “legitimate chance” if he remains healthy to pursue The Great One’s record. “I never would have thought that would happen.”
