Alex Ovechkin Ties Mario Lemieux For Career Goals

Alex Ovechkin scored his 690th NHL career goal against the New York Islanders Saturday afternoon at Nassau Coliseum.  The goal allowed him to tie Mario Lemieux for tenth place on the All Time list for career goals.

Here is an updated list of where he ranks on the All Time List.

His next goal will allow him to take over sole possession of tenth place in career goals.  Just two more goals will allow him to tie Steve Yzerman (692) for ninth place.  Four more goals will allow him to tie Mark Messier (694) for eighth place.

The goal came at 10:22 and gave the Caps a short lived 1-0 lead.

It’s Ovechkin’s 32nd goal of the season, which ranks third in the NHL (David Pastrnak: 36; Auston Matthews: 34). Ovechkin has scored six goals in his last three games and eight goals in January, which is the second most in the NHL (Nikita Kucherov: 9).

  1. Day One Caps Fan says:

Another SICKENING display of gross ineptitude by the Caps
    Pisz-poor goaltending by Braden Hole-by.
Miserable play by all four lines
ABSENCE of motivation. Gosh Reirden is the most ignored and joke head coach in pro sports

Especially this Reirden guy. God Bless him, he manages to squeeze out the greatest amount of stinko from his charges than any Caps coach since Adam Oates

Can’t get into the head of GM Brian MacLellan. Does he really endorse this “must put in our ‘starting goaltender’ every other game” while the hottest goalie in pro hockey parks his butt on the pine? The first three goals were eminently stoppable. Sammy stops them. Copley stops them. I bet you Vanacek does too. I can’t think of an NHL starting goalie who DOESN’T stop them. Aaaagh!

The fourth goal was a “statement” by Hole-by’s teammates: “We think you stink so we’ll stink too”

Speaking of stink: It stinks being a Caps fan. We’re guaranteed two losses a week while Clueless Wonder keeps throwing swiss-cheese Hole-by back out there. Start printing Pittsburgh’s Stanley Cup Finals Tickets
