Forward Richard Panik, who got high-sticked in the face during the Washington Capitals5-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Saturday, wore a jaw protector during the team’s optional morning skate and said he is fine to suit up against the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday night (7 PM ET, NBC Sports Washington).

Ilya Samsonov, who has won each of his last seven starts, will start against the Hurricanes.

He will face goaltender Petr Mrazek who will start for the Hurricanes.

Forward Justin Williams, who signed a one-year contract with the Hurricanes on January 7 but has yet to play this season, will not make his 2019-20 season debut against his former team on Monday night. Defenseman Hadyn Fleury will also be a healthy scratch against the Capitals.
