We are always extremely interested in how Capitals fans are feeling. Whether it’s posting daily readers’ polls, exchanging thoughts and insight on social media, or just reading your emails and comments to our posts, all of it is critically important to us. Players, coaches, staff, media all come and go, but Capitals fans remain. They are the one true constant and the backbone of the organization.

Over the holidays we conducted a series of readers polls via our twitter account, to check the pulse of Caps nation on a number of topics. Here are the results from those questions to you:

Results from the Twitter polls: (12/23/19 – 01/10/20)

1. Who deserves to make more money? Nicklas Backstrom or Evegeny Kuznetsov?

2. The Capitals are racking up the minor penalties. Is this a concern to you?

3. How many regular season starts should Ilya Samsonov make?

4. Who should be the Capitals primary starting netminder in January?

5. With 50% of the season in the books, who was the best offseason acquisition for the Capitals?

6. In the upcoming expansion draft, the Capitals will be able to protect 7F, 3D and 1G. Who would you protect on the blueline?

7. Did you keep watching the Caps game after the Sharks scored a goal to make it 4-2 with less than minute to go?

8. Would you sign Justin Williams? This would include making any roster moves to meet salary cap constraints.

9. What is the Capitals greatest need for improvement, necessary to win a second Stanley Cup?

If you have any thoughts on any of the topics, or an idea for a new readers poll, as always, please drop a comment at the bottom of the post. We need your insight!

These polls are excellent and fascinating. Great Job NovaCapsFans team

Caps are 30-10, but are not at all dominating or convincing. Every season around 10 April, some NHL team becomes just that: Dominating and convincing.

I have little confidence that Reirden and his staff will “figure it out.” So the answer to improvement must come either from the existing core of players, or GM Brian MacLellan. My money is on GMBM. When he does it, and just what he will do, is the greatest mystery!

But It’s a certainty that the 08 January 2020 Caps, who fumbled away a won game in PHI, will not win anything in an NHL Playoff series. “Things” must change substantially between now and 10 April 2020.

  2. James Paterson says:

    9. Special teams.
1-3-1 is the new “old school” way of running a PP.
Everyone else does it now, so everyone else knows how to defend it far better than when it was first used.

Check out Ryan Simpson’s “behind the net” formation and visualize both Backstrom and Kuznetsov behind the net, Oshie and Ovechkin on either side’s spot, and Carlson roving at the 1 D spot?

    • Day One Caps Fan says:

Great analysis James Paterson! With a hockey coaching internet site no less!

This is good. How can we get this information into The Caps’ hands? Clearly the Reirden & Co. staff are content with the way they do it now — failure notwithstanding!
