As if scoring an answering goal to a close, no-goal call in the second period, Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin moved into a tie with Hall of Famer Teemu Selanne for 11th all-time on the NHL’s Goals Scored List with his second goal of a 6-1 victory against the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night.
After scoring late in the middle frame, Ovechkin added his second of the night and 26th of the 2019-20 season at the 16:19 mark of the third period, on assists from John Carlson and Tom Wilson. The goal extended the Caps’ lead over the visiting Senators to 6-1.

The goal gave Ovechkin the 138th career multi-goal game of his career, the seventh-most in NHL history.
The goal was also Ovechkin’s 684th in his 15-season career, tying him with Selanne for 11th all-time in NHL history in Goals Scored.
