Bears Blank Phantoms 3-0; Parker Milner Pitches Shutout; Garrett Pilon, Joe Snively And Brian Pinho Score Again

The Hershey Bears downed the Lehigh Valley Phantoms 3-0 Sunday afternoon at the PPL Center in Allentown. After a scoreless first frame, Joe Snively would pot his ninth of the season early in the middle frame, Garrett Pilon would score his third goal of the weekend and Brian Pinho would score with 5 seconds left in the middle frame for a 3-0 lead at the second intermission. The final frame would go without a score for the Bears 3-0 victory. The win improves the Bears record to 18-10-2-3 (41 points) on the season.The Bears are just two points behind Hartford and Providence for first place in the Atlantic Division.

STARTERS
Parker Milner (0-0-0-0, 0.00 GAA, .000 sv%) got the start in goal for the visiting Bears. It was his first start for the Bears this season. Alex Lyon (7-9-2-0, 2.53 GAA, .915 sv%) got the start between the pipes for the Phantoms. The starting forward lines and defensive pairs for the Bears:

Scratches: Pheonix Copley (lower body injury, did not make the trip), Steve Whitney (upper body injury), Beck Malenstyn (upper-body injury) and Colby Williams (lower body injury, week-to-week) were the injury scratches. Riley Sutter, Alex Alexeyev, Lucas Johansen and Kale Kessy  were the healthy scratches.

Christian Djoos was recalled by the Capitals on Friday due to Radko Gudas and Michal Kempny dealing with illness.

FIRST PERIOD
A slow start offensively for both teams in this one. Lehigh Valley led in shots 4-2 after 13 minutes played in the first frame.

The first period would be scoreless. Hershey led in shots on goal 15-6 for the first 20 minutes. Both teams were 0 for 2 on the man advantage.

SECOND PERIOD
The Bears would finally dent the scoreboard with a goal from Joe Snively (9) at 3:46 of the second period. Mike Sgarbossa (21) had the lone assist.

The Bears would make it 2-0 with a goal from Garrett Pilon (6) at 14:41 of the second period. It was Pilon’s third goal of the weekend. Bobby Nardella (8) had the lone assist.

Brian Pinho (6) would stretch the Bears lead to 3-0 with 5 seconds remaining in the middle frame. Connor Hobbs (1) and Bobby Nardella (9) had the assists.

The period would conclude with the Bears leading 3-0. The Bears led in shots 16-4 for the second period, and 31-10 after two periods of play. Hershey was 0 for 4 and Lehigh Valley 0 for 2 on the power play after two periods.

THIRD PERIOD
The Bears and Phantoms would skate to a scoreless final frame, as the Bears held on for the 3-0 win.

The Bears return to action on Friday when they visit the Penguins in Wilkes-Barre. Puck drop is set for just after 7:00 PM.
