Every Capitals fan has a soft spot for the team dog and future service dog, Captain. Even some fans from other NHL teams love Caps Pup. Friday evening, Captain officially made his way onto the WeRateDogs Twitter account.
Captain tweeted on Thursday that the only thing he asked Santa was a rating from the popular dog account. WeRateDogs quickly replied a hug would be the “proper assessment”.
for a proper assessment i think i need to give you a hug

Being a part of America’s VetDogs program, an important quality of Captain is his 16-month training to become a service dog for a veteran or first responder with disabilities. Once Captain’s basic training is finished with the team, he will go back to America’s VetDogs, a non-profit organization based in Smithtown, New York, for a few months of final preparations before becoming an official service dog.
In 2020, the Capitals will be sponsoring a second Caps Pup courtesy of Monumental Sports & Entertainment owner Ted Leonsis and his wife, Lynn.
