The Columbus Blue Jackets downed the Washington Capitals 5-2 Monday night at Capital One Arena. The loss ends the Capitals latest winning streak at six games and drops their record to 22-5-5 (49 points) for the season.

GAME SUMMARY
The Blue Jackets dominated the first frame but would only pot a single tally due to the strong play of Braden Holtby. The Jackets would stretch their lead to 2-0 early in the middle frame for a 2-0 lead at the second intermission. Alex Ovechkin would make it 2-1 just 40 seconds into the final frame, but the Jackets would get it back six minutes later to make it 3-1. The Jackets would make it 4-1 midway through the third period. Nicklas Backstrom would make it 4-2 with a 6-on-5 goal late, but the Jackets would answer with an empty net goal to make it 5-2, and that would be the final.

The Jackets jumped out the starting gates, registering several early scoring chances. They would ultimately dent twine at 3:27 with a goal from Cam Atkinson.

Columbus led in shots on goal 4-0 after the first seven minutes of play.

The Blue Jackets continued to dominate the entire first frame. Columbus out-attempted Washington 29-12, and led in shots on goal 20-6. Fortunately for the Capitals, Braden Holtby was in top form. The first period concluded with the Jackets leading 1-0.

SECOND PERIOD
The Blue Jackets would continue to dominate to start the middle frame. They would extend their lead to 2-0 with a goal from Ryan Murray at 6:52 of the second period.

The Capitals led in shot attempts 19-8 and led in shots on goal 15-6 for the period. The Blue Jackets led in shot attempts 37-31 and shots on goal 26-21 after two periods. Both teams were 0 for 3 on the power play after two periods.

The Capitals would get on the board just 40 seconds into the final frame with a goal from Alex Ovechkin, making it 2-1. Dmitry Orlov (11) and Nicklas Backstrom (15) had the helpers.
