In the Washington Capitals 5-2 win against the Detroit Red Wings Saturday night, on a night in which he scored a hat trick, Alex Ovechkin achieved several new personal milestones, adding to a long list of accomplishments for The Great Eight.
Ovechkin’s first goal came at the 9:21 mark of the second period, giving the Caps a 2-1 lead in the game. The marker was his 18th of the season and allowed him to tie Peter Stastny for 38th on the NHL’s all-time points list. His second goal at the 18:25 mark of the third period (an empty-net) carried him past Stastny for sole possession of 38th all-time in points, and marked the Caps’ captain’s 137th multi-goal game, putting him within two of tying Marcel Dionne for sixth-most in league history. His 18th marker also moved him even closer to 11th all-time in Goals Scored
Alex Ovechkin scores his 18th goal of the season, which is tied for the second-most in the NHL. It marks his 676th career goal, nine shy of passing Teemu Selanne (684) for the 11th-most goals in NHL history.

Ovechkin’s final tally came on another empty-net, and gave him three on the night, in addition to an assist on a goal by Tom Wilson. The four-point night pushed The Great Eight to 1,241 career points, which is behind Jean Ratelle’s 1,267 points for 37th all-time. The three-goal game for Ovechkin was the 24th of his career, allowing him to pass Jari Kurri for the 10th-most in NHL history and requiring him to record one more hat trick to tie Hall of Famer Cy Denneny who ranks ninth with 25 hat tricks in his career.
Ovechkin’s first tally on Red Wings goalie Jonathan Bernier was his seventh all-time on the netminder, giving him at least seven goals against 32 different goaltenders in his 15-season career.
Ovechkin’s goal tonight marks the seventh time he has scored against Jonathan Bernier in his career. He’s scored at least seven goals against 32 different goaltenders in his career.

Ovechkin’s 20 goals for the season ranks second in the league, behind Boston Bruins superstar David Pastrnak. Reaching the 20-goal plateau yet again puts the 2004 first overall pick in the company of Marcel Dionne, Mike Gartner, Jaromir Jagr, and Mats Sundin as the only five players in NHL history to record 20 or more goals in their first 15 NHL seasons.
Thanks to the last of his 3 tonight, @Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin has joined Marcel Dionne, Mike Gartner, Jaromir Jagr & Mats Sundin as the only 5 players to record 20+ goals in each of their first 15 career NHL seasons

This guy is immortal, is he not? Great summary Diane D. Many thanks
I bought ten boxes of “Ovi O’s” at a Giant Food store in Warrenton, VA. Did that because I live in a nearby state where Giant does not carry the Caps-themed breakfast food. The ten boxes are Xmas presents for friends and family — including several Flyers and Penguins fans
