The Washington Capitals held an optional practice on Tuesday at Medstar Capitals Iceplex ahead of Wednesday’s game in New York against the Rangers (8:00 P.M. ET on NBCSN). Here are notes from the morning skate.
Forward Carl Hagelin was on the ice in a light blue (non-contact) jersey but is still day-to-day. He has missed six straight games due to an upper-body injury.
Not skating this morning was forward Nic Dowd, who remains day-to-day from a hand laceration. The injury was more severe than originally believed. Head Coach Todd Reirden will say more once he gets word from the trainers.
As of now, forward Garnet Hathaway has not heard from the NHL regarding supplemental discipline after his ejection in Monday’s win over the Anaheim Ducks.
Garnet Hathaway said he has not yet heard directly from the NHL regarding any supplemental discipline for his spitting incident with Gudbranson last night vs Anaheim.

Hathaway was given a match penalty after spitting on Ducks defenseman Erik Gudbranson during a brawl that broke out towards the end of the second period.
Reirden hinted there may be line shuffling later today or tomorrow morning.
Reirden said there’s no update on Hathaway’s situation yet. He did, however, indicate there may be some roster shuffling this afternoon. He wouldn’t be specific because he hasn’t talked to the affected players. So stay tuned. #Caps
