Capitals’ Garnet Hathaway To Have Hearing For Spitting At Ducks’ Erik Gudbranson

DK Pittsburgh Sports

Washington Capitals forward Garnet Hathaway will have a hearing Wednesday morning for spitting at Anaheim Ducks defenseman Erik Gudbranson during the brawl late in the second period of the Capitals’ 5-2 win against the Ducks on Monday night.

Head coach Todd Reirden told reporters on Tuesday that the Capitals could place forwards Carl Hagelin and/or Nic Dowd on long-term injured reserve prior to their game at the New York Rangers on Wednesday (8 PM ET, NBCSN) if Hathaway is suspended in order to make room under the NHL salary cap since Hathaway’s cap hit will still count against the cap.

Hathaway, 27, was given a match penalty for spitting. After the game, he told reporters that the incident was accidental and expressed his sorrow.

With Hagelin and Dowd both out against the Rangers, the Capitals could be down to 11 available forwards and six defensemen if Hathaway does not play.

Hathaway has two goals, seven points, and a +2 rating in 23 games this season.

Don’t know what they can do with the forward lines now. Anyone know how they can play with 10 forwards?

Hathaway and Leipsic are my two new Caps Heroes! Bam-bam and Boom-boom! Speed and skill cut no ice on a wimpy team!

Caps needed this. Great offseason by GMBM

I agree – the fact that the Caps have serious grit whether or not Wilson is on the ice is making all the difference on this year’s team. Seeing them out fight the dirty Ducks with Wilson on the bench made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. This team looks reel good right now.

think he meant 11 forwards and 6 defensemen,

Which is even worse than 11 F and 7 D. (I don’t recall the Caps ever winning when they did 11 F and 7 D)

Caps need to trade/waive some salary. It’s only November and irs already causing significant issues.
