Just because one streak ended for the Washington Capitals in their 4-3 shootout loss to the Arizona Coyotes on Monday doesn’t mean others came to a halt either. The Capitals’ extended their point streak to 12 games (10-0-2) and their multi-goal scorer streak to nine games, a franchise record, after center Evgeny Kuznetsov struck twice.
The Capitals’ streak of nine games with a multi-goal scorer marks the longest such streak in the NHL since the Philadelphia Flyers went 12 straight games with one in the 2005-06 season.
Captain Alex Ovechkin has tallied the most multi-goal games during this stretch (three) while Kuznetsov, defenseman John Carlson, and forward Jakub Vrana (each has two) have also done so more than once. Vrana is the only Capital to post back-to-back multi-goal performances. Kuznetsov also has four consecutive multi-point games, where he has tallied three goals and nine points.
The only player who has scored more than two goals in a game during this stretch was Vrana when he recorded a hat trick in the Capitals’ 4-2 win over the Calgary Flames on November 3.
Defenseman Michal Kempny is the only Capital to post his first career multi-goal game during this stretch.
The Capitals offense has been rolling since the start of the 2019-20 season as their 76 goals are 11 ahead of the Nashville Predators for first in the NHL and this is further proof of that. They look to keep it going when they visit the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night (7:30 PM ET, NBCSN).
