Capitals Visitor Locker Rooms Voted Worst In League By 50 NHL Players In ESPN Poll

ESPN’s Emily Kaplan released her annual NHL Player Poll Tuesday morning. The annual poll, “NHL Player Confidential”, asks 50 players a number of questions, based on the premise of anonymity, with the goal of achieving more honest and direct responses. The first question in her piece asked players which team had the worst visiting locker rooms. Capital One Arena took top honors.

What the players said:

“Washington’s showers are so bad. They’re like a prison shower. There’s a pole in the middle, then just spews that come out of that one pole. Not that I care if someone is showering next to me, but it’s just a really weird setup.”

“Boston is brutal. You’re right there next to the rink. It’s cold. You’re not comfortable. If you feel comfortable, you’re going to play well, so that’s probably why they do it. It’s a competitive advantage for them.”

“I’m not a fan of the old Coliseum in Long Island. It’s too long of a walk from the locker room to the ice. I hate making that walk.”

Personally, as a Capitals fan, this makes me happy. Home ice advantage should be just that. By any and all means. I’d have the visiting team dress in the parking garage, if I could get away with it.

The poll covers a wide range of interesting topics, including drug use in the league, twitter burner accounts, and worst cities to visit. You can find her intriguing article here.

    Day One weighs in!

Tickets for a Caps Game are exquisitely expensive, the team hauls in a fortune of dollars in TV-radio revenue and merchandise, and the Capital One Arena touts as the finest in the world. It would be embarrassing to me if I were a Ted Leonsis or a Dick Patrick or even the Head Coach, and NHL players complained that the visiting lockers and showers s*ck.
