In the Capitals’ Friday night game against the Buffalo Sabres, forward Jakub Vrana came ever-so close to the first three-goal game of his NHL career, scoring twice against the Sabres. During Sunday night’s game against the visiting Calgary Flames, with the Washington Nationals in the crowd, Vrana followed up his two-goal performance with the first “hatty” of his NHL career.
Vrana’s first two goals of the night came in the first period against Calgary, scoring his first marker at the 11:01 mark of the first period, on assists from Evgeny Kuznetsov and Tom Wilson.

The three goals were Vrana’s seventh, eighth, and ninth on the season and he becomes just the sixth player in the history of the franchise to score the team’s first goal five or more times within the first 16 contests of the season.
