The St. Louis Blues announced on Monday that forward Vladimir Tarasenko will undergo shoulder surgery on Tuesday and be reevaluated in five months. He will be placed on long-term injured reserve, according to the team.

It appears that he got twisted up with Los Angeles Kings defenseman Sean Walker while driving to the net after getting checked off of the puck in the Blues’ game against the Kings on October 24. Tarasenko held his shoulder on his way off the ice.

Losing Tarasenko, who has tallied three goals and 10 points in 10 games this season, is a huge blow for the defending Stanley Cup Champions as he has led the team in goals in each of the past five seasons.

While the Blues are only two points behind the Colorado Avalanche for the top spot in the Central Division, they have been inconsistent lately as they have gone 5-3-2 in their last 10 games.

Tarasenko missed each of the Blues’ two games over the weekend at the Boston Bruins and the Detroit Red Wings. The team said that he was out with an upper-body injury.

From The Blues

Vladimir Tarasenko will undergo surgery on his left shoulder Tuesday and will be re-evaluated in five months.

Tarasenko had points in five straight contests before leaving the Oct. 24 game vs. Los Angeles in the first period with the injury after playing just four minutes and 37 seconds. He will be placed on long-term injured reserve.

Blues General Manager Doug Armstrong will address the media about the injury on Tuesday at the team’s practice facility.

In 10 games this season, Tarasenko had posted three goals and seven assists.

    Colorado odds just improved greatly.

Not happy to hear the news, especially since it’s the best player on my 2nd favorite team. Ouch. Between that and the news on Max Scherzer, I’ve been feeling a little depressed about sports today. (At least, the Caps had that nice comeback on Friday night.)
