The Washington Capitals recalled forward Shane Gersich from the AHL’s Hershey Bears a day after sending him down there. Gersich will center the third-line, stepping in for Lars Eller, who is dealing with an upper-body injury in the team’s preseason finale at the Carolina Hurricanes (1:30 PM ET, NBC Sports Washington) on Sunday afternoon. Though, the team is likely just being cautious with him.
Center Nic Dowd will also not play against the Hurricanes as he is currently dealing with a minor ailment.
Gersich was recalled because the #Caps had two scratches in Raleigh. Eller is out for precautionary reasons; he battled an upper body injury earlier in camp. Dowd, meantime, did not travel to CAR. He’s dealing w/ a minor ailment, as well. Dowd skated today at MedStar.
