After a day off on Thursday, the Capitals returned to training camp activities on Friday at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. The Capitals wrap-up their slate of preseason home games on Saturday when they host the Carolina Hurricanes at Capital One Arena. Puck drop is set for just after 7:00 PM. Here’s the latest from day nine of Capitals training camp.
Training Camp Roster
The Capitals made their first round of roster cuts on Thursday. 20 camp invites were either released or re-assigned within the organization, leaving 40 players remaining on the training camp roster:
Lars Eller is still day-to-day, and will not play Saturday night against Carolina.
Reirden said Eller skated before the first group went on the ice. He’s not playing in tomorrow’s preseason game, but still considered day to day with an upper-body injury.
Kempny (hamstring) was out there the full time with the first group, but still non-contact.

Michal Kempny practiced the full hour, but is still in a non-contact jersey. Reirden said he is still not ready to fully participate.
Preparation For The Hurricanes
Ilya Samsonov will get the entire game tomorrow night, with Pheonix Copley backing him up. Samsonov stopped 12 of 13 shots faced in Wednesday’s game against the Blues.
