Today not only marked the official release of the highly-anticipated “Ovi-O’s”, but the 34th birthday of their namesake, Alex Ovechkin, who spent the morning practicing in training camp, which is now fully underway. However, The Great Eight had a special visitor at camp in the form of his one-year old son Sergei.
In videos and photos posted to the Instagram account of Ovechkin’s wife, Nastya, Sergei is seen watching his father and his teammates skating through drills and practice while holding two birthday balloons, all while donning a red Capitals’ sweater with the number “8” and the nameplate “Ovi Jr”.
At one point during practice, Ovechkin skated over to the glass to greet his son, who seemed fascinated by the drills and action on the ice.

Sergei also got to meet Capitals Assistant General Manager Ross Mahoney, who was with the organization when the Capitals drafted his father in 2004, just a few months before Alex’s 19th birthday.

Before Ovechkin’s time on the ice was over, he brought Sergei onto one of the benches to watch the other members of the team before departing the ice for the day.
All in all, Sergei’s visit to MedStar Capitals Iceplexe made for a memorable day for both father and son!
