Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin represented the team at the 2019 NHL Media Tour in New York on Friday. He spoke to the media and laced up the skates to be featured in a few commercials.

Regarding center and teammate Evgeny Kuznetsov’s IIHF suspension, Ovechkin said “It’s hard. He made a mistake. You have to support him.” Kuznetsov will meet with league commissioner Gary Bettman prior to Thursday, when the Capitals get set to open training camp for the 2019-20 season.

Ovechkin also said that he changed his offseason training once again in an effort to get faster, so he cut off a little weight lifting.

He started the day off with some magic with television star Justin Flom. The two mostly played with cards.

A student from Stan Mikita Hockey School for the deaf named Eli taught the Great Eight how to state “Stanley Cup Champion” via sign language.

Ovechkin also set up a “food bracket” and hot wings won the honor of being his favorite food from that bracket.

Ovechkin suited up in his game uniform to shoot some promotions on the ice, where he did some skating and celebrations.

That would wrap up the day.
