Alex Ovechkin Makes His 2019-20 Debut At Capitals’ Informal Skate On Friday


Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin returned to the DMV on Thursday and joined his teammates for an informal skate at MedStar Capitals Iceplex for the first time on Friday.

The 33-year old was greeted by linemate Nicklas Backstrom when he hopped onto the ice and the two chatted for a few minutes. He participated in a team scrimmage and passing drills.

Ovechkin arrived in town with his family earlier this week.

Defenseman Nick Jensen also participated in an informal skate for the first time on Friday.

Backstrom, goaltender Braden Holtby, center Evgeny Kuznetsov, defenseman John Carlson, forward Carl Hagelin, forward Jakub Vrana, defenseman Michal Kempny, center Lars Eller, defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler, goaltender Ilya Samsonov, goaltender Vitek Vanecek, defenseman Alexander Alexeyev, defenseman Martin Fehervary, forward Joe Snively, forward Garrett Pilon, and defenseman Tobias Geisser all participated in Friday’s skate and have been for the last little bit. Those who have not shown up yet include defenseman Radko Gudas, forward Richard Panik, defenseman Dmitry Orlov, forward Tom Wilson.

The team will continue to hold informal skates in the morning regularly leading up to Thursday, September 12, the official start of training camp.
