According to Mark Divver of Rinkside Rhode Island, the Washington Capitals will sign former Providence College goaltender Hayden Hawkey on an amateur tryout agreement.

Hawkey, 24, went 24-12-5 with a save percentage of .921, a goals-against average of 1.88, and eight shutouts last season. He never posted a lower wins total than 22, a goals-against average of 2.19, or save percentage of .913 in any of his three seasons as the starting netminder at Providence. He wrapped up his senior year last season.
The native of Parker, Colorado was drafted 177th overall in the 2014 NHL Draft by the Montreal Canadiens, who traded his rights to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft. Hawkey has never played an NHL game in his career.
He was on the USHL’s All-Rookie team, First All-Star team, and won goalie of the year in 2014. Hawkey was also selected to Hockey East’s Second All-Star team in 2018.
