Colorado Avalanche forward Andre Burakovsky had a chance to speak directly to Washington Capitals fans on Friday night for the first time since the team dealt him to the Avalanche in exchange for second- and third-round picks in the 2020 NHL Draft on June 29. The 23-year-old forward participated in former linemate and center Lars Eller’s Hockey Stars Tournament in Rødovre, Denmark. NoVa Caps’ Harrison Brown was on-site to cover the tournament and had a chance to speak with the fan-favorite.
“I want to think all of the Caps fans for all the support through the years. I’m really happy to have you guys around,” Burakovsky said. “You’re still in my heart and I love you all, so I hope you still like me too.”
Burakovsky will return to Capital One Arena for the first time as a visitor on Monday, October 14, when the Avalanche visit the Capitals for their lone regular-season trip to the District. He is certain to get a tribute video and an enthusiastic welcome from the fans after helping the team win their first Stanley Cup Championship in 2018.
Until then, you can relive some of Burakovsky’s highlights with the Capitals below:
