Caps in Da Beauty League: Shane Gersich Tallies Again, Travis Boyd Notches A Goal in Wednesday Night Action

In a recent post, NoVa Caps brought an update on some action from “Da Beauty League” summer league action in Minnesota in which Capitals Nick Jensen and Shane Gersich each tallied on the scoresheet. Last night, Gersich was back on the scoreboard once again, and this time, another of his Capitals teammates, Travis Boyd, joined him in the goal department.

The two Washington teammates were opponents in this respective game, which pitted Gersich’s Team Tradition against Boyd’s Team RBC.

With the Tradition down 2-0 to RBC early in the first period, Gersich collected a rebound from a shot by Jason Zucker of the Minnesota Wild and backhanded the puck past RBC netminder Jake Kielly to cut the Tradition’s deficit in half. The goal was Gersich’s second of the tournament.

Gersich would strike again, this time with a nasty move. Coming all alone on Kielly, Gersich pump-faked while at the same time allowing the puck to slide free from his possession, beating the RBC goalie in the process, giving the Tradition a 8-6 lead at the 13:43 mark of the second period.

Boyd would get his turn just under seven minutes after Gersich’s second tally, as he struck on an assist from Arizona Coyotes defenseman Alex Goligoski at the 20:36 mark to extend RBC’s lead over the Tradition to 10-8. The goal was Boyd’s fourth of the tournament.

RBC would add an empty-net goal to clinch the 11-8 win over the Tradition. Gersich’s two goals were his second and third of the tournament and he now has four points (three goals, one assist) in five games. Boyd’s goal was his fourth of the tournament and he now has seven points (four goals, three assists) in six games. RBC’s next game comes on Monday, August 12, while the Tradition’s next game will also be played on Monday
