The Kunlun Red Star of the KHL signed David Bondra, son of Peter, to a professional tryout contract on July 18, heading into their 2019-20 training camp.
During the 2018-19 season, Bondra played in 53 games for HK Poprad in the Slovakian League. He then played in 53 games during the 2018-19 season and had 35 points (22 goals and 13 assists). That was good enough for the third best total on the team, with a score of 35 points. He then added another 6 points in the playoffs.
Bondra represented Slovakia at the last two World Championships (2018 and 2019) and scored one goal each of those tournaments.
He could possibly be the fourth Slovakian to play for Kunlun, joining Martin Bakoš and Tomáš Marcinko, who played there in 2016-17 and defender Marek Daloga in 2017-18.
