Washington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie will be out for “a significant amount of time”, according to head coach Todd Reirden. Oshie left the Capitals’ 2-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 4 of the First Round series after getting cross-checked into the boards by Hurricanes forward Warren Foegele with 5:08 left and did not return.
Reirden stated that the team will have a clearer time-table for Oshie’s recovery time on Friday.
T.J. Oshie was taken directly to the x-day room just off the ice here at PNC Arena and was in serious distress, according to reporters who saw it.

According to Chris Kuc of The Athletic, the NHL Department of Player Safety is currently reviewing Foegele’s hit on Oshie, who missed 11 games in November and December due to a concussion.

Oshie, 32, posted 25 goals, 54 points, and a +5 rating in 69 games during the regular season and one goal, two points, and an even rating through four games in the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin called Foegele’s hit on Oshie “a dirty play” and thought the penalty should have been more than two minutes.
Ovechkin on Foegele’s boarding of Oshie: “It’s a dirty play. It has to be not two minutes. It has to be a different call.”

Foegele called it “an unfortunate play” but hoped Oshie would be fine.
Here’s what Warren Foegele told reporters: “I was trying to lift his stick, trying to give him a little nudge. It was a little unfortunate play there, I wasn’t trying to hurt him or anything. I hope he’s OK.”

Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind’Amour felt that Oshie was not ready for the hit.
Brind’Amour (cont’d): “We have way more injuries than they do, so I don’t worry about their team.”

More details on Oshie’s injury will likely be announced on Friday. The Capitals are already without defenseman Michal Kempny, who underwent hamstring surgery on April 2 and will miss the remainder of the season.

The Capitals will look to regain the series lead in Game 5 on Saturday night (8 PM ET, NBC) likely without Oshie.

This clearly sucks!! Its time for DSP/Jaskin inserted in lineup. This team is missing that JAM! That playoff style in the bottom 6 which is yet to show up. You look at NYIs with Cizikis,Clutterbuck etc 4L, and last year we had Dsp, Beagle.. I dont know if Reirden is brainless or what but you dont win cups without JAM&heavy game. Burakovkys, Hagelins, Boyds/Stephensons the skill&fancy dont get it done in playoffs. You need JAM. You need players who provide s reens, deflections, blocks, clutch
