Last year Axel Jonsson-Fjällby had a great showing in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) playoffs, making a real breakthrough. After a rough regular season this year, it felt like the Swedish winger took one step back. But sometimes one has to take one step back in order to take two steps forward, and maybe that’ what Jonsson-Fjällby has done. Currently he is killing it, leading his team Djurgården in points in the SHL playoffs, where the Stockholm team currently play in the semifinals, on the verge on reaching the finals.
Jonsson-Fjällby has 7 points in 10 games, averaging relatively low ice time per game, with about 13 minutes played each game. In the regular season, the Stockholm native only managed to score once, in the playoffs he has already scored four times. The goals have been beauties by the way, and are often a product of his hard work and blazing speed.

Last night, he single-handedly created a great opportunity, skating through the whole Färjestad team, and then set up teammate Mattias Guter with a wonderful assist.

Djurgården now has a 3-1 series lead, and could very well make the finals for the first time since 2010. After the regular season, very few could see this scenario where Axel Jonsson-Fjällby were key in his team’s success.

You can’t teach “World Class.” Good for the kid! Hope he comes back to the Caps in a few years
