Well, it took a shootout, but the Capitals did it. They swept their weekend set in New York, beating the Islanders on Friday, and the Rangers Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Capitals also sweep the Rangers for the season. For now, the defending champs sit on top the heap, first place in the metropolitan division. And we have Dr. ‘Dre to thank for our “What a Rush” line rush of the game:
What a rush! Andre Burakovsky would receive the puck at the red line and go the distance. Burakovsky showed great patience and the ability to find the open shot from the top of the slot. Extra credit to new guy Nick Jensen with the perfect screen in front of the net.
Andre would take the puck up the right wing wall, and perfectly timed a cross-over move, losing Ranger’s defensman Marc Staal, to find the open lane for the shot. Andre wired one for the Capitals second goal of the game. The Capitals would win it 3-2 in a shootout.
The call from John Walton on Capitals Radio:
With the goal, Burakovsky now has two goals and two assists in the last five games.
The Capitals will now return home to the DMV for a few days before departing for Philadelphia on Tuesday. The Capitals will face the Flyers Wednesday night.
