In a day that saw recent trade acquisition Carl Hagelin partake in his first practice as a member of the Capitals, the Capitals also sent defenseman Madison Bowey (and a second-round draft pick) to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for defenseman Nick Jensen (who the team subequently signed to a four-year contract extension). While the Capitals and many of his now-former teammates took to social media to wish him well, it was forward Jakub Vrana’s Instagram post that may bring a tear to one’s eye.
Vrana, who was drafted by the Capitals in 2013 along with Bowey, posted a series of videos and photos to his Instagram with a heartfelt message saying:
“It’s hard to see you leave big fella had so much fun together good luck in the future gonna miss you “
Both Vrana and Bowey have been teammates throughout their time in the Capitals organization, playing two seasons with the Capitals’ American Hockey League affiliate Hershey Bears, and the last season and a half with the Capitals, winning the Stanley Cup last summer.

Bowey played in 84 games with the Capitals over the last two season, scoring once and adding 17 assists for 18 points.
