ALLENTOWN, PA — Another win is in the bag for the Hershey Bears – That’s their ninth straight. They are also now on a 15-game point streak, which ties the franchise record. Pretty impressive for a team that has an 81-year history. The point streak is also tied for the longest in the AHL right now – the San Jose Barracuda are on a similar streak.
Tonight the Hershey Bears faced Flyers’ goaltender Brian Elliott, who was on a conditioning assignment. He made 14 saves on 18 shots, which is not so great, but he is coming back from injury. Our boy Vitek Vanecek made 24 saves on 27 shots.
Beck Malenstyn picked up his first professional multi-goal game, scoring twice in the first period to give the Bears a 2-1 lead. Mike Sgarbossa is on a four-game point streak, adding is 23rd goal to the stat sheet. Ryan Sproul also tallied the Bears’ fourth and gamewinning goal.
The Hershey Bears have now improved to 29-20-0-3 in the season and are currently THIRD place in the Atlantic Division. If the playoffs started today, the Bears would be in it. The Chocolate and White will look to make history by extending the point streak to 16 games against their divisional opponent and rival the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Friday.
Whether they keep it going or not, it’s still a pretty impressive feat, and it’s great to see how far the team has come since the beginning of the season. For more on tonight’s matchup, check out our full-game recap and keep scrolling for photos from the game.
