A few seasons ago, Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin became the all-time leader in goals scored by a Russian player in the history of the NHL, passing former Capitals teammate and Hockey Hall of Famer Sergei Fedorov in the process. On Wednesday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Ovechkin once again joined Fedorov atop the Russian record books.

With a goal (his 37th of the 2018-19 season) in the second period against Toronto, Ovechkin tied Fedorov for first-place on the All-Time Points/Scoring List by Russian players, with 1,179. Fedorov, who played 18 seasons in the NHL, reached his point total in 1,248 career games played. Ovechkin, who is in his 14th season in the league, did so in just his 1,053rd career game, with a period left to play at the time of writing. The goal can be seen below:

Ovechkin’s goal was his fourth in two games, coming off a night on Tuesday in which he recorded his 23rd career hat trick in a losing effort against the San Jose Sharks.

Definitely a wonderful accomplishment by Ovechkin! But not playing as well as he did on last year’s Stanley Cup Championship winning team. What have you done for me lately! Maybe he’s trying to do to much. My concern is he’s receiving to much playing time on the ice and just may not have enoughin the tank for another playoff run to another cup victory.
