In the game between the Washington Capitals and the Ottawa Senators, Nicklas Backstrom tied Henrik Zetterberg on the All-Time list for assists. It was Backstrom’s 623rd career assist. Backstrom got an assist on the team’s second goal which was scored by Tyler Lewington and, incidentally, was Lewington’s first NHL career goal.
Backstrom and Zetterberg are now currently tied for eighth place on the All Time List for assists by a Swedish player. Backstrom’s next assist puts him in sole possession of eighth place on that list.
Backstrom would need 13 more assists to tie Peter Forsberg for seventh place at 636, 14 more assists to tie Borje Salming for sixth place at 637, and 25 more assists to tie Daniel Sedin for fifth place with 648.
Way to go, Nicky!!!
