They say to keep your friends close and your enemies closer. But what if you friend is your enemy, and your enemy is all of your friends at the same time? A little confusing to think about, right? Well let me explain, earlier today, Capitals defenseman Madison Bowey and forward Jakub Vrana sat down to play some CHEL in NHL 19 as a promotion for Washington’s first ever Capitals Esports Faceoff; but more on that a little later on.
Both men played as the Washington Capitals, clad in different uniforms. Bowey’s bunch wore the navy blue Stadium Series garb while Vrana’s squad wore our traditional away jerseys. The whole game was played live on Twitch.tv and the highlights are available here through the Capitals official Twitter account.

The game was evenly contested throughout, but Bowey came up with a big first goal just after the halfway point of the first period.

Down by a score of 2-1, Vrana’s lineup knew they needed to do something big if they wanted to turn things around. And in the start of the third period, the away jersey clad incarnation of the Great Eight tied the game at two a piece, and would be looking to seal the deal with one more goal.

However, Vrana’s group would prove unsuccessful in shutting down Bowey and the Stadium Series Caps, and the game was sent into overtime, still tied a two goals per side. And then, with just a minute and a half left in the extra period, Evegny Kuznetsov, as played by Madison Bowey, wrapped the game up and put a bow on it with the game winning slapshot from Ovechkin’s usual office. Bowey celly’d from his armchair, and he and Vrana congratulated each other on a hard fought battle.
But now, more on why these two teammates went head to head in NHL 19’s CHEL; the Capitals Esports Faceoff! The Faceoff is a contest for Capitals fans; a chance to go one on one against each other as the Stanley Cup winning team. The two finalists of this tournament will earn a trip to DC to compete in the finals, the grand prize of which is a whopping $10,000 and the opportunity to represent the Caps in a showcase against the Eastern Conference runner ups, the always formidable Tampa Bay Lightning.
