Another game, another milestone for the Capitals’ captain Alex Ovechkin. As we’ve mentioned a number of times so far this season, the milestone achievements for Ovechkin are coming fast and furious, seemingly each and every game. Tuesday night was no different.
First things, first. Alex Ovechkin recorded his 21st career hat trick Tuesday night against the Red Wings. He moves past Pavel Bure and Darryl Sittler and into a tie with Glenn Anderson and Richard Martin for 12th-most hat tricks in NHL history. Teemu Selanne ranks 11th with 22.
With three goals in the Capitals 6-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings, Alex Ovechkin now has 126 career multi-goal games, good enough for sole possession of 11th place on the NHL’s all-time multi-goal games list. His next multi-goal game will tie him with Jaromir Jagr for 10th place on the all time list.
Ovechkin’s performance on Tuesday night extended his point streak to 12 games. He has scored 13 goals and has 19 points over that 12-game span. Ovechkin leads the league in goals scored with 25, and is seventh in the league with 39 points.
Ovechkin’s 25 goals this season are tied for the most goals all-time in a team’s first 30 games at age 33-or-older.
