After avoiding any discipline for an innocent in the Capitals’ recent tilt against the New Jersey Devils, right wing Tom Wilson was on the receiving end of a nasty blindside hit towards the second period of the Capitals’ Tuesday night game against the Vegas Golden Knights in Sin City.
With just over four minutes left to play in the second frame of the team’s first game in Sin City since their Stanley Cup win on June 7, Wilson was blindsided by a late hit by Vegas forward Ryan Reaves, who had been engaging with Wilson in the game prior to the hit. Reaves was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct for the hit, much to the chagrin of the Vegas crowd and Head Coach Gerard Gallant.
Wilson was slow to get up and required assistance from Head Athletic Trainer Jason Serbus and teammate Chandler Stephenson and then slowly made his way to the dressing room and did not return to the bench for the start of the third period and was ruled out of the game by the Caps.

Wilson has been on a tear since rejoining the team from a 20-game, reduced suspension, scoring eight goals and adding six assists in 10 games played coming into the team’s contest against Vegas.

Dumbass
Reaves is a tool.
Wilson diserved it. How many players has he injured that same way. What goes around comes around. Maybe wilson will think twice next time he has a chance to injure someone. Now that he kmows what it feels like. I dont like to see injuries occur to anyone. But maybe this will have a positive outcome on wilsons playing style. I hope wilson isn’t to badly hurt though.
I’m ambivalent about it for the same reasons Jay gave directly above. Tom will be okay. I just hope he’ll continue to play aggressively without playing recklessly in the months ahead…
