Alex Ovechkin Scores His 626th Career Goal – Passing Joe Sakic and Jarome Iginla for #15th on All Time List

The milestones keep coming for the Washington Capitals.  In the Washington Capitals’ 6-3 victory against the New Jersey Devils on Friday November 30, Alex Ovechkin scored the team’s fifth goal, an empty net goal.  It came at 18:30 in the third period.  This goal was Ovechkin’s 626th career goal and allowed him to take over sole possession of 15th on the NHL’s All Time Goal Scoring list and pass both Joe Sakic and Jarome Iginla.

Tonight’s goal was Ovechkin’s 19th goal of the year and came on a night where Nicklas Backstrom had a hat trick, for which Ovechkin had an assist, and Tom Wilson played in his 400th game, scored a short-handed goal and was ejected from the game.

Ovechkin is currently tied for third place in the NHL for goals with David Pastrnak and behind only Patrik Laine of Winnipeg (21) and Jeff Skinner of Buffalo (20).  To advance on the All Time List, he would need 14 more goals to tie Dave Andreychuk (640 goals) and 30 more to tie Brendan Shanahan.
