Alex Ovechkin scored two goals in the Capitals 5-4 overtime victory over the Canadiens Monday night in Montreal. Ovechkin’s second goal, a power play goal from his office, moved him up to seventh on the NHL’s all-time list for power play goals.
Ovechkin tied the game 4-4 early in the third period with a power play goal, the 236th of his career. The goal ties him with Mario Lemieux for seventh place on the NHL’s all-time power play goal list. Ovechkin is now one goal away from tying Brendan Shanahan for 6th on the all-time list.
In addition, Ovechkin is now just four goals shy of passing Joe Sakic and Jarome Iginla (625) for 15th on the NHL’s all-time goals list.
