Washington Capitals’ Prospect Eric Florchuk Continues Impressive Play in Blades 5-2 Win

Washington Capitals prospect Erik Florchuk scored twice in Saskatoon’s 5-2 win over the Tri-City Americans Saturday night. This was Florchuk’s second multi-goal game of the season so far.

As you may recall, Florchuk was taken with the very last pick in the 2018 NHL Draft by the Washington Capitals. But so far this season, Florchuk is turning out to be anything but “Mr. Irrelevant”. The 6’-2” center from Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, has seven goals and 15 assists in 23 games so far this season.

Florchuk has taken 61 shots for a shooting percentage 11.5%. The 18 year-old is currently third on the Blades in goals (7), third in assists (15). Florchuk is currently third in scoring for all Capitals CHL prospects:

1. Riley Sutter – 9g, 18a, (27 points in 23 games)
2. Alexander Alexeyev – 7g, 18a, (25 points in 21 games)
3. Eric Florchuk – 7g, 15a, (23 points in 23 games)
4. Kody Clark – 6g, 9a, (15 points in 24 games)
5. Kristian Roykas-Marthinsen – 6g, 4a, (10 points in 23 games)
6. Alex Kannock-Leipert – 1g, 3a, (4 points in 21 games)

Both of Florchuk’s goals in Saturday night’s game came a crucial point in the game, and in the “dirty” area. His first goal came on the doorstep, tying the game late in the third period.

Florchuk’s second goal would come four minutes later, to seal the victory for the Blades. Florchuk showed great determination on this goal, battling for the puck from the blue line to the blue paint, and finishing with a gritty goal.

Florchuk was humble in his post-game assessment of his level of play in the game. His assessesment Of The seems fairly “heady” for an 18 year-old. [Video courtesy of Blades TV].

Florchuk has been fairly impressive since being drafted by the Capitals back in June. He had an impressive development camp, which included a goal in the development camp scrimmage on June 30:

Florchuk also impressed in the Capitals prospect tournament in Estero, Florida back in September, as well as in training camp.

Florchuck is “Anchor Man”:i.e. the last man taken in the 2018 NHL Draft. He’s working his tail off and I hope he makes the Caps or the Bears
