After Some Time Off, the Capitals Hit the Road for Montreal

With a successful trip through Western Canada, the Capitals resume their road journey into Montreal.  Last week, the Capitals went 2-1 in Western Canada, as they defeated Vancouver and Calgary, but fell to Edmonton.  The Capitals are coming off a 4-3 shootout victory against the Flames, as Pheonix Copley won his first NHL game in the Capitals net.  Puck drop in Montreal on Thursday is at 7:30 PM ET.

MONTREAL

While the Habs were believed to be in the middle of a rebuild, they had a solid month of October.  The Canadiens went 6-3-2 in October, and are clinging in the Eastern Conference Wild Card position.

A major reason why the Canadiens have performed so well is because of Carey Price’s play.  Price, 31, looks to be healthy again and back to his old Vezina Trophy-caliber ways.  Price has recorded a 2.24 goals against average and a .915 save percentage in the first month of the regular season.

The Canadiens are getting nice contributions from Max Domi, who they traded Alex Galchenyuk for in the offseason.  Domi leads the Habs with 5 goals and 11 points.

The Habs are coming off a 4-1 loss against Dallas, and will look to turn things around against the Capitals.  It is expected that Carey Price will get the nod in net against the visiting Capitals.

WASHINGTON

The Capitals have not played since Saturday, so they must get their legs going quickly against the speedy Canadiens.

The Capitals went 5-3-2 in the month of October, which is not bad considering that their opening batch of games was against playoff caliber clubs.

The stars came to play for the Capitals in October.  Alex Ovechkin recorded 8 goals and 14 points in the month.  Evgeny Kuznetsov led all Capitals skaters with 15 points, while John Carlson recorded 14 points in his first 10 games.

Under the direction of Todd Reirden, the Capitals are playing with more tempo and pace.  The Capitals powerplay is keeping the club above water, as they were 37.1% effective in the first month of the season.

On the injury front, the Capitals will be without the services of Brooks Orpik against Montreal.  Orpik is day-to-day with a lower body injury.  The Capitals recalled defenseman Aaron Ness from Hershey, and he will likely be the extra body in tomorrow’s tilt.  In addition to Orpik’s injury, the Capitals have sent forward Travis Boyd down to Hershey for a conditioning assignment.

A LOOK BACK IN TIME

The Capitals defeated the Canadiens 6-4 during their last regular season meeting in Montreal.  Nicklas Backstrom recorded 4 assists in the game.

Copley play more? He just played. I like what Ive seen from Copley so far but its what 1 and half, 2 games? Caps have starting Thursday Caps have 8 gms every other day end with back to back Nov 13th&14th. 5 home games& 2, 4 point division games w/ Pit&Jackets squeezed in middle. So Copley will definitely get 1 gm of the back to back, but Caps need to stack points, and you have a Vezina winning, cup winning Horse who wants work& usually gets 65ish gms a year. So Holtby probably going to work the next 5-6 games like a horse should. Copley is here to work 15-20 gms, thats it.

As for tomorrows game, Caps gotta take Habs serious. Not that they havent in years past but they added some speed and talent up front with Domi,Tatar and others so they can score a little now. Its not just all about defense.
Ovs drought, 2 games straight 0 goals. Ov gotta get back on track. Usually a good history v Habs&Price hes gotta bury a couple whether 5on5, pp etc
    Kuzy&Backy dominate at center
Holtby win goalie battle v Price
Defense, pk shut it down, protect the net front, clear the zone
