The Hershey Bears beat the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 4-3 (SO) on Saturday night at Giant Center. The win raised the Bears record to 3-6-0-1. The Bears finish their three games in three nights set on Sunday when they host the Lehigh Valley Phantoms at Giant Center. Puck drop is 5:00 PM. 

STARTERS

FIRST PERIOD
Things were not completely settled last night in Wilkes-Barre, as Liam’O’Brien and Garrett Wilson would drop the gloves just six seconds into the contest.

The Penguins would notch the game’s first tally at 14:51 when Zach Aston-Reese got By Bears defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler, who lost his stick on the play.

The Penguins would hold a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes of play. The Bears outshot the Penguins 13-5 for the opening frame. The Bears were 0 for 2 and the Penguins 0 for 0 on the man advantage.

SECOND PERIOD
The Bears would briefly tie things up early in the middle frame with a goal from Michael Sgarbossa just 39 seconds into the period. Aaron Ness was credited with the lone assist.

But the Penguins would grab the lead right back. Teddy Blueger would notch the Pens second goal of the game at 6:40 of the middle frame.

But the Bears would respond as well. Riley Barber would pot a shot handed goal at 11:16 of the second period. Mike Sgarbossa and Lucas Johansen we’re credited with the helpers. This was Barber’s first goal of the season.

The period would end with the game tied 2-2. The Bears outshot the Penguins 9-8 for the middle frame and led 22-13 after 40 minutes of play. The Penguins were 0 for 2 and the Bears 0 for 3 on the power play after 40 minutes of play.

THIRD PERIOD

The Penguins would retake the lead with a goal from Ethan Prow.

But the Bears would respond once again. This time Beck Malenstyn would pot the tying tally at 4:02, his first career AHL goal. Steve Whitney and Jonas Siegenthaler we’re credited with the assists.

Regulation would end with the game tied 3-3. The Bears outshot the Penguins 10-8 for the final frame, and 39-22 for regulation.

OVERTIME/SHOOTOUT

A wild extra frame would ultimately go scoreless. The Bears would win it in the shootout with scores from Barber and Gersich.

SHAVINGS
