Alexander Alexeyev was selected by the Washington Capitals with the last pick of the first round of the 2018 NHL Draft. Since being selected, Alexeyev has continued to impress Capitals coaches and management with a strong showing in the Capitals 2018 development camp at the end of June, and during the 2018 prospect tournament September. He also had a strong showing during Capitals training camp, before being returned to the Red Deer Rebels of the WHL on September 21.
The 18-year old Alexeyev has continued his strong showing so far this season with Red Deer. On Tuesday night, Alexeyev scored two more goals in the Rebels 3-1 win over the Calgary Hitmen. Alexeyev potted both goals in the first 15 minutes of the first period.
Alexeyev would start the scoring just 2:14 into the opening frame, sniping high glove-side for the 1-0 Rebels lead.
Alexeyev’s second tally would come 12:00 later at 14:14 of the first period. Alexeyev would unleash a bomb from the right point, just inside the blueline, going far post.
Alexeyev now has 6 goals and 8 assists in 12 games played so far this season. His 6 goals on 36 shots gives him a 16.7% shooting percentage.
Alexeyev signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Capitals on September 24th. (here).
