Alex Ovechkin recorded his 123rd career multi-goal game against the Canucks Monday night in Vancouver, surpassing Mark Messier (122) for sole possession of 13th on the NHL’s all-time list. He now sits within one of Steve Yzerman (124) for 12th.

Ovechkin would notch his second goal of the game in the third period against the Canucks. Nicklas Backstrom would also record his 600th career assist on the play.

Alex Ovechkin’s 123 career multi-goal games= 43 more than anyone since he broke into the NHL in 2005-06 (Sidney Crosby- 80). It’s also 9 more than anyone in the last 25 seasons (114- Teemu Selanne)

The Capitals are off today (Tuesday) and will return to work on Wednesday in Edmonton to begin preparing for their tilt, with the Oilers on Thursday night. Puck drop is a little more manageable 9:00 PM ET.

Messier and Yzerman were both major-league “Caps Killers” back in the day. Ovechkin indeed is in elite company! ….. I wonder if Yzerman will go back to Detroit and make himself the GM. It’s seems obscene to see Detroit at the bottom of the NHL standings.

From what I heard about Yzerman was his move was strictly family based, which I believe remained in Michigan the whole time. Would be surprised if that’s the next step. He’s certainly proven himself.
