Don Cherry has been known for two things throughout his broadcasting career: his crazy suits and his opinionated commentary during the “Coaches Corner” segment, where he discusses multiple hot topics from around the NHL during “Hockey Night in Canada” every Saturday.
This week, Cherry touched on the 20-game suspension given out to Washington Capitals‘ forward Tom Wilson by the NHL. Wilson was given a match penalty for a hit laid on St. Louis Blues forward Oskar Sundqvist during last Sunday’s preseason finale and was offered an in-person hearing by the Department of Player Safety.
“Never get in those trolly tracks and you know you did it like this. You talked to a lot of guys. Always see who’s on the ice all the time. That kid (Sundqvist) should’ve known that Wilson was looking for trouble.,” Cherry said.
Cherry also touched on Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand’s incident with Capitals center Lars Eller during the segment. Marchand pulled Eller into a fight he refused to engage in after he thought that Eller celebrated too much in front of the Bruins’ bench on a goal that made the score 7-0. Cherry said that thinks that Marchand was “justified” to fight Eller. He also added that he loved Marchand.

Cherry is an an ass and turning senile besides. Marchand is a hoodlum and Cherry supports his tactics. Wilson is just big and strong, well-loved, nice in person, and Cherry has no clue about the guy.
