The Washington Capitals were back on the ice on Tuesday for the team’s fifth day of training camp. The team is gearing up for their game against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night at Capital One Arena, the second game of a home-and-home series with the B’s. Boston took a 2-1 shootout decision at TD Garden on Sunday afternoon in the Capitals’ preseason opener. Here is all of the news from day five of Capitals’ training camp.
Capitals’ 2018 first-round draft pick Alexandar Alexeyev will suit up in his first game with the team. The Russian defenseman will ride shotgun with Connor Hobbs on a defensive pairing tonight. Capitals’ head coach Todd Reirden said that he wanted Alexeyev, 18, to play in a game with fellow Russian defenseman Dmitry Orlov, who is also in the lineup tonight. Alexeyev compared his playing style to Orlov’s. Reirden thought that Alexeyev picked a great player for him to look up to.
Alexeyev admitted it’s a little strange being at camp with so many players he looked up to growing up:
“When I was young I was watching them play and I play Playstation with them. Now, I’m super happy I’m here and I can skate with them and play games with them.”

With Alexeyev in the lineup, the Capitals will dress their past three first-round picks.
I’ll just redo this tweet. You can still make fun of me for mixing up the Johansens.
Few vets dressing again, but Caps lineup includes team’s last three first-round picks:
G Ilya Samsonov – 2015
D Lucas Johansen – 2016

Forward Axel Jonsson-Fjallby will make his Capitals’ debut and will play with fellow-Swede Nicklas Backstrom and forward T.J. Oshie against the Bruins tonight.
Axel Jonsson-Fjallby will play his 1st NHL preseason game for Caps tonight vs. Boston on line with Backstrom & Oshie. Backstrom said he told him to use his speed, which is biggest asset.
“I just told him, ‘Go as hard as you can, go after the puck. Me and Osh will read off you.’”

Goaltenders Braden Holtby and Ilya Samsonov will split the net tonight with Holtby playing the first half.
Holtby will start for Caps tonight vs. Boston and play first half of game. Ilya Samsonov play the second half, Todd Reirden said.
