A First Look At The New Upgrades Inside Capital One Arena

Capital One Arena received many upgrades over the Washington Capitals offseason. The upgrades were highlighted by new seats and a complete renovation of the arena concourses. NoVa Caps’ Harrison Brown, who is also a Capitals’ season ticket holder, saw the new arena renovations at the Capitals’ preseason game against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night.

Here are the new seats:

Here is a closer look at the seats:

Below, you can see the VIP seats for Rows A and B. As was the case previously, the seats are removable, not permanent, but they are sturdier and have more padding than the old blue seats.

Sitting in these seats were a lot more comfortable than the previous ones as they are stronger and softer.

Fans who are nostalgic for the old arena can buy the seats from last year. More on that here.

In addition to the seats, the team store was also remodeled to make it slightly more spacious. The design is similar to the old store with the exception of where the checkout registers are located. The other big change: plenty of new Stanley Cup Champions gear!!

There were also changes to the concourse and signage. The most noticeable change is to the suite entrances. Instead of the floor to ceiling panels featuring Caps and Wizards players, the suite entrances now feature half-walls.

The halls of the arena were repainted and new section plates were installed. Some of the concourse concessions have been relocated to make the hallways appear roomier, but the true test will come Opening Night when the Caps have a full crowd on hand.

Some of the biggest changes in the $40 million arena overhaul were to the PWC Club. Unfortunately, renovations are still underway, so the Club was draped off tonight.

Stay tuned to see if there are any more arena renovations anytime soon.

Nice writeup. And a comprehensive set of pictures. I had taken a few pictures but you’ve done a much better job of taking a variety of pictures than I did. (I basically took pictures of the seats and of the hallways.)

My own observations: the seats are black instead of the old blue. The lower level seats currently don’t have cup holders. I would not be surprised to see them soon since I’ve heard reports that the upper bowl seats have cup holders.

The concourse has beem painted grey, as opposed to its former colors. Several of the various concession stands are under construction, it seems. Some people have remarked on Facebook that the sound system seems improved.

Good preview of changes, Harrison 👍

  3. Richard Hayden says:

The lower seats behind the goal had no cupholders and no padding. Old seats way more comfortable. Tilted back and bigger.

Talked to some of the concession workers. They have been told that there will not be lids or straws for the soft drinks.
