A new year and a new bucket for the Stanley Cup Champion and Vezina Award winning goaltender, Braden Holtby. The Washington Capitals released a few photos of Holtby’s beautiful new bucket on Wednesday morning, and it’s another beauty for “The Beast”.
The new design, created by the Capitals personal artist, David Gunnarsson, features block “Capitals” lettering across the lower jaw and chin lines, red, white and blue outlined stars across the upper half of the helmet, and a new-age eagle on top. A very intriguing overall design, if you are looking for styling queues for a potential new uniform design for the Capitals.
Gunnarsson is the mastermind behind goalie mask designs for numerous Washington Capitals and Hershey Bears goaltenders over the years. A few examples are here, here and here.
Washington Capitals‘ goaltending prospect Ilya Samsonov debuted his new goalie mask, his first as an NHL goalie, on Friday, August 31st. The 21-year old will play his first season in North America this upcoming season and will likely start with the AHL’s Hershey Bears.
