Everything starts, everything has an end. Last season ended for André Burakovsky with a Stanley Cup title. Now, a new season begins, and “Burra” has the goal clear.
“I want to write a new long-term contract with Washington,” he told SVT Sport, aiming at doubling his scoring.
The following is a translation of the interview:
Stanley Cup winner André Burakovsky, who has been home in Malmö during the summer, revealed the trophy and built up for next season. Yesterday he attended the studio during Malmö’s CHL match against TPS from Turku.
“That was the biggest thing you could do. And to be part of the team that won the first time in Washington’s history, that’s great too, absolutely amazing, says Andre Burakovsky to SVT Sport.
The champion from Malmö now makes his fifth season in the world’s best hockey league. The season 2019/2020 is his last year on the contract.
– I have two goals with the season, one: Having a really good season, two: Writing long-term contracts with Washington.
Doubling his point production
Should he get a new contract, it may also require more points from “Burra”. Last season he scored 25 points.
“The goal is to reach 50-55 points and I hope for over 20 goals.”
Washington’s coach Barry Trotz resigned after the Stanley Cup triumph and was replaced by assistant coach Todd Reirden. A change to Burakovsky’s advantage, according to himself.
“I know him well and know that he likes me alot, there are good opportunities for me.”
